In February last year I was so lucky to participate in a reality TV program recording with my friends. The show named Super Brain was extremely popular in China and through this program we had the chance to explore something new in the fields we did not know before.

I still remembered that freezing afternoon, all the audience gathered at Nanjing International Expo Center. To my friend and me, this was a once-in-a-life chance so we excitedly discussed that we should take a lot of photos from the second we enter the studio hall.

Well perhaps plan never runs smoothly cause when we sat down in the fabulous studio hall we were informed that no one was allowed to take photos or videos during the whole recording process. The staff told us that some audience used to take photographs secretly and post them on the Internet ahead of the telecast just in order to steal the spotlight. They were proud to give away the spoiler but it was no doubt a nuisance to the television station.

Although I wanted to take just one picture as a memento and my friend also looked sad, we decided to comply with the rules and packed up our electronic devices. To be honest that night was still amazing and I enjoyed the show even though no photo was taken.

The best news for me up till now is that my parents finally stopped forcing me to take the college entrance examination, so that I could focus on the preparation for the IELTS test.

Well actually that’s a long story, and I’ll try to make it short.

Um… my parents are the kind of people who are like perfectionists, and I’ve always been taught that I need to do everything well, which is pretty stressful you know. But growing up in a typical Chinese family, I don’t have too much right to decide my future or the way I am taught, except for my decision of studying abroad, they are quite supportive and open-minded about this, actually.

But the thing is, although they both agree that I would attend a university in a foreign country, they still wanted me to take the college entrance examination, despite the fact that I won’t need the score of that exam at all. And their explanation is, that experience is valuable for every student in China, I’ve been studying for almost 12 years, if I don’t take the exam, then it would feel like I am missing out on something important. Besides, they argued that what I learned in high school is also useful after I go off to college.

So you see, for about half a year, every day after school, I had to finish my homework my teachers assigned, and then I needed to stay up late until midnight to prepare for the IELTS test, which, without doubt, made me exhausted not only physically but also mentally.

So I had a heart-to-heart conversation with my dad, telling him what I truly felt and how stressed out I was, and he realized that I just couldn’t take it physically, because during that time, I always got sick.

So after serious consideration, my parents finally gave up, which was really good news for me.

Well, this topic reminds me of the joke my friend told me the other day. It was hilarious and it really cracked me up.

It’s a story between a rabbit and a wolf.

One day, the rabbit bought a cute hat, and on her way back home, she met the wolf who always gives her a hard time.

The wolf hit the rabbit on the head real hard, saying, ‘Why are you wearing a hat?! / What the hell are you doing with a hat?!’

So the next day, the rabbit didn’t dare to wear the hat again, but when she ran into the wolf, the wolf hit her again, asking, ‘Where’s your damn hat?!’

The rabbit got confused and didn’t know what to do. So she went to the tiger to find justice.

However, the tiger was actually on the wolf’s side, and he told the wolf not to bully the rabbit in such an obvious way,

‘You need to come up with a good reason to find fault with her.

For example, tomorrow, you could ask her to pick flowers for you, if she got the red ones, you can hit her and say why don't you pick the yellow ones, and vice versa.

You can also ask her to bring hot girls to you, if she brings you a fat lady, then you can punish her and ask her why don’t you find me a slim one?!’

However, they didn’t know the rabbit was just outside the door and heard everything.

So the next day, when the wolf asked the rabbit to pick flowers, she asked, ‘Red ones or yellow ones?’

The wolf was surprised, and he kept asking, ‘Find me a girl!’

And the rabbit asked, ‘Fat one or slim one?’ The wolf hesitated for a second and punched her hard on the head, asking, ‘Where’s your damn hat?!’

So you see, this is a really side-splitting/funny joke.

最新雅思口语Part2话题答案: a recent change of you

2 years ago, I was pretty satisfied with my situation, studying in a decent university, majoring in a promising field, and possibly embracing a bright future. I wasn’t as hard on myself as I was in high school. Instead, I stayed up late playing computer games with my roommates, slept in and got late for classes frequently, and played the phone while the professor was lecturing in the classroom. I managed to pass all my exams every semester, so I told myself that there was nothing to worry about.

Life didn’t come to an intersection until I made up my mind to further my study abroad. In order to do that, I had to pass the English test. I was very confident in myself. I registered the test, did very little preparation, and took the test. As a result, I was way off the target. I was very frustrated. I reflected my life, my attitude, and decided to make a change. After the test, I started to get rid of all those bad habits. I unloaded all the games on my computer, worked hard in the library in the evening, got up early in the morning to read English.

It wasn’t easy to change the habit. Sometimes I thought of giving up; sometimes I thought of procrastinating. But I told myself that I could do it. I was very diligent in high school, and I was sure that I could found myself back. God only helps those who help themselves. My hard work got paid off very soon. In the next test, I made great progress. The progress in turn boosted my confidence.

I guess the lesson I could take away from this change, is that I should bear a positive attitude to life, and stay hungry all the time.

最新雅思口语Part2话题答案:a TV series or drama you enjoy watching

You should say:

What it is

What it’s about

When did you first watched it

And explain why you like watching it

参考范文

Okay, I’d like to share with you a TV series I’ve been watching these days called 13 reasons why.

It’s like, em, last month, I got instantly intrigued(吸引) by a recommendation from a famous blogger(博主), saying this show was rated 8.8 out of 10on IMDB(打分高达8.8. .MDB类似美国豆瓣). Then, for the past month, I quickly finished the whole season(季), 13 episodes(集). Actually, this TV drama is basedon a best-selling book(畅销书), depicting(刻画) a story after teenager ClayJensen found a mysterious box with his name on. Inside he discovered a group of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker-his classmate who tragically committed suicide(自杀) several weeks earlier. On these tapes,Hannah unfolded(展开/呈现) an emotional audio diary(有声日记), detailing the thirteenreasons why she decided to end her life.

I guess the reason why I quite enjoy this teen series (青少年电视剧) is, to my surprise, it made me think a lot about life, about how our different behaviors may cause negative effects to others we interact with. Seeing Hannah suffering from confusion and desperation(迷茫和绝望) the whole time, I really hope someone like her classmates or parents could give her a helping hand(帮助她). Sadly, nobody read her mind(了解她的心思) successfully and chose to leave her alone when she said so. I know somehow it’s also Hannah herself who pushed away those who wanted to be close to her.

Anyway, I have to say committing suicide is a super reckless decision(轻率的决定). Just like one guy inthe show said: suicide is for the weak. Instead of hiding or ignoring the problem, the better way to deal with depression is to go get help from others, telling them directly what you’re really experiencing.

Hopefully, this show could give us some insights(给我们一些启示) into cracking many of the problems(解决问题) that high schoolers(高中生) are facing, like suicide, school bullying(校园霸凌), drug abuse(毒品), and etc.
